Introduction
Sustainability is a critical consideration for any business today. It is becoming increasingly important to manage sustainable efforts effectively. The idea of a digital footprint is bigger than people realize. Consumers might see their digital footprint as their mobile phones or laptops and home heating. But there is more than just devices, and it’s the cloud storage and servers to deliver that information.
Businesses create larger digital footprints. With just mobile, IoT, servers, and computers, the impact is huge. Take into account water, vehicles, waste and carbon emissions, and the impact on the environment becomes even larger. Organizations will need to start looking for ways to become green, sustainable, and net zero emission in the near future.
This is where Fruggr comes in.
Fruggr, the ‘Made in France’ software measures carbon and social footprints and digital accessibility in accordance with ESG standards. The platform helps firms track and manage their sustainability efforts, making this software an invaluable resource for IT and ESG managers. With Fruggr, your firm is able to monitor a part of energy consumption, track carbon footprint, reduce waste, and promote sustainable procurement.
What is Fruggr?
At its core, Fruggr works by collecting data on your business’s energy usage, waste generation, water consumption, and other sustainability-related metrics. All this data is collected from a variety of sources, including energy meters, IoT (Internet of Things) sensors, and utility bills. Once all your information is collected, it is processed and analyzed by Fruggr’s algorithms to identify trends and patterns in environmental impact.
A set of tools are provided to the organization to manage its sustainability efforts.
For example, it allows firms to set sustainability goals and track progress toward those goals over time. It also provides your firm with tools for reducing energy usage, minimizing waste, and promoting sustainable procurement.
How does Fruggr work?
Fruggr generates detailed reports on the business’s sustainability performance. These reports can be customized to meet a business’s specific needs. This can include data on energy usage, carbon emissions, waste generation, water consumption, and more.
To measure sustainability on Fruggr, a certificate rating grid exists. Using both a letter and number grade to indicate a score. As shown in the image below.
Evaluation criteria are expressed as a score out of 100. These results are combined from 3 dimensions: Environment, Social, and Sufficiency
Environment
Starting with the Environment. This section is broken down into carbon emissions, water consumed, and energy consumption. All values are made over a full year to determine a score.
In order to measure carbon, greenhouse gases (GHG) are monitored. To provide this score Fruggr evaluates the impact in a differentiated way for terminals, networks and servers. Even the Fruggr home page measures your personal impact in g/CO2 produced while browsing.
Water usage is difficult to quantify for digital technology. Most water is used during the terminals and server CPU manufacturing phase, particularly for rare earth metals like gold, lithium and copper. fruggr does take into account the amount of water needed to cool equipment, most notably in data centers.
Energy consumption occurs at three different stages: manufacture, digital services, and networks, including servers and digital infrastructure. This approach makes sure the right order of magnitude is used over the life cycle of a product.
Social
In the Social domain, IT needs to care as much for the environment as they do their colleagues. Fruggr adds to the environmental analysis a social score is determined by Accessibility, Ethics, and Inclusion.
The Accessibility score is calculated by the degree of compliance with international rules. WCAG or Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are followed to make sure anyone can access information. Fruggr consolidates a dynamic score for all pages on a website, not just a sample.
An Ethical score measures transparency in data management and protection. It is a duty in most parts of the world that personal data is secure. So, the more secure a site is, the more secure user data and the way it’s used. fruggr does an analysis of application code that is taken into account by this score. The two main indicators under data protection are security and reliability.
The Inclusion score determines the compatibility of digital services on all devices. Essentially, this means the larger the number of browsers that exist, the more a service will be used. It is important for all devices like laptops, phones, etc., because it means compatibility. This is an important factor in fighting obsolescence, creating a strong impact on the environment.
Sufficiency
The final area covered is Sufficiency or Sobriety. This is the Governance in ESG. It is a difficult score to measure automatically. Fruggr considers environmental and social impacts that are not part of the overall sufficiency strategy. It is the Technical, Functional, and Design aspects of sufficiency.
To measure Technical Sobriety, a solution needs to be maintainable and scalable. Being frugal is a key factor in improving this score. fruggr analyzes terminal code size to establish a score for compliance with best practices for development in mind, as well as a performance score that consolidates the average of all pages reviewed.
The Functional Sobriety Score is based on simplicity, compatibility, and accessibility for the end user regardless of their equipment. fruggr relies on the 3U rule at evaluating each functionality: Usefulness, Usability, and Use. When it comes down to it, simplifying a user’s flow can mean a reduction of features offered and therefore, save the impact of developing and using those features.
Design Sufficiency is based on a ratio between the weight of images, video and text and the weight of the containers. Design is considered on how the website is laid out, while the right content is in the right place.
Why You Need To Be Using Fruggr
Fruggr is one of the best tools for companies that are looking to reduce environmental impact and become B Corp Certified.
As the world shifts towards net zero emissions, along with inclusion and accessibility. Tools like Fruggr will assist your company in reducing environmental impact, allow for more employees and clients to use your products, and become sufficient for years to come.
Moreover, monitoring your digital footprint can help to improve your application by using the best
KPIs as well as continuous improvement in:
