Devoteam and its crew didn’t just pick up the Google Cloud EMEA Services Partner of the Year award at Google Next 2018, in San Francisco last week – they also picked up important insights from the world of Google. For those of you who don’t know yet, Google Next 18 announced new tools, technology, and much much more, that they will made available in their partner ecosystem. This year, Google Next ’18 led the way in turning more heads than ever with over 100 new announcements.
Last week we already shared the six major announcements from the event, but what did the participants think? Let our team members bring you through their Google Next highlights!
1. Spotlight on AI
With thousands of researchers and millions of scientists working on making AI a part of our daily lives, the recent announcement of Cloud Auto ML (Natural language and Translation) certainly shook things up. Our consultants believe that they are turning dreams into reality as Cloud AutoML let’s you build your own models with a very simple User Interface and minimum knowledge in ML, so you can use your own data, load it, click ‘train’ and that’s it. You can now use your predictions with a simple Rest API.
With just a handful of organizations using ML, the new Auto ML announcement from Google is a game changer in the realm of AI because it is way simpler and faster to train and optimize models and achieve incredible scoring

2) One Google Cloud for all
From social media giants like Twitter, to startups and small-medium sized companies, Google Cloud has been an umbrella platform for all. Our consultants heard both success stories as well as reasons why Google Cloud Platform (GCP) has been the best option for customers of all sizes. Google Cloud function is now on General availability, allowing deployment in production for appropriate workloads.
Even for personal use, Google Nearline Storage is the cheapest and fastest way to store large files and the option I personally use and recommend.

3) Istio 1.0 release
Istio, a service mesh solutio, based on Google Site Resilient Engineering which allows secure Canary deployment for Kubernetes hosted applications, promises an open platform to connect, manage, and secure microservices. Google developed Istio 1.0 along with Lyft, IBM, Red Hat (Devoteam’s Partner), Cisco and Pivota. It aims to unify traffic flow, access policy enforcement and telemetry data aggregation across microservices into a shared management console, regardless of the environment.
Istio 1.0 is one of my key takeaways amongst the various announcements, simply for the multitude of functions it offers in the domain of microservices, traffic management, and much more.

4. G Suite
With a wide array of announcements, Google fed its attendees with friendly updates in G suite, such as smart hangouts, Voice commands in Hangouts, smart replies, comments on all type of files in Google drive and also the ‘Propose a new time’ feature in Google Calendar. Our Devoteam representatives from all over Europe were impressed with the auto-replies, autocomplete messages and grammar.
I felt double the energy this time. The event had twice as many attendees this year, with an impressive emulation and presentation of ideas by partners.

5. Partner focused
Partners were a key focus for Google,with them being the focus of three major 3 major announcements towards partners:
- 100% Partner attachment to the deals.
- 100% Involvement to professional services engagement.
- 100% Partner inclusion in marketing efforts.
During our time at the event, we were struck by the enthusiasm amongst partners, developers and Googlers alike, as they continue working and growing together to make things happen.
And last but not the least, our biggest take away was definitely our Google Cloud EMEA Service Partner of the Year Award!
This is a great achievement and a source of pride for us. Since, 2009 we have grown and developed a partnership with Google Cloud that has become a key in our capacity to accelerate the transformation our our clients. With Google Cloud, we change the way employees work and collaborate. We make IT agile and we boost business with smart data. I believe we are only at the beginning and that we need to keep on scaling strongly together.
